Administrators | Senior Staff | Junior Staff | Counselors In Training
In everyone's life, there are inspiring people and great moments that they will remember forever. Our staff plays a vital role here at Falcon Camp. They model the core values that we strive to teach to every camper. Our Falcon counselors (between the ages 18 - 25) are carefully selected and trained in first aid, CPR, child abuse prevention and much more. Most of our staff is "home grown," having been Falcon campers and completing our Staff Development Program. This program trains teens (ages 16 & 17) to support the counselors, campers and activities. Our caring staff is passionate, well-trained, knowledgeable and ready to share a fun-filled summer with their campers!
Administrators
Dave Devey: Camp Director
Dave started as a camper at Falcon in 1964 and stayed through as a counselor, program director, and associate director by the end of the 70's. After graduating from the University of Pittsburgh and working in the "real world" for several years, Dave returned to Falcon to become the director/owner in 1984. He is a long time board member of the American Camp Association Ohio Section and is an ACA visitor to accredit camps. In between maintaining camp facilities and promoting Falcon in the off-season, Dave spends much of his time educating parents on the value of a camping experience, doing PR work for the ACA on how to choose the right camp, the importance of the ACA camp accreditation program, and also mentoring younger camp directors in several states. As the legislative chair on the ACA board, Dave is very involved with the Ohio state legislature on many issues involving youth, camping and education. Dave is happily married to Emily and is very proud of the excellent reputation Falcon has established over the years.
Emily Devey: Assistant Director
Emily currently teaches kindergarten after years of teaching Physical Education and Health in the Cleveland area Catholic schools. She has also taught in Cleveland area preschools and private schools. Emily is also currently coaching girls lacrosse at Hawken School. Emily is a former camper and staff member from several camps before joining Falcon in 1990. Her riding experience started about the time she could walk and reached a level of showing in national events. Her teaching ability and knowledge of horses has enabled her to create one of the most respected camp riding programs anywhere. Emily is also an ACA visitor to accredit camps and a clinic instructor with the Horsemanship Safety Association. As well as being camp directors, Dave and Emily are parents of two children, Hannah and Cas.
Nici Mahen: Assistant Director
Nici began her career at Falcon as a camper in 1985. As she progressed through the ranks of camper and staff, she earned her Elementary Education degree with a minor in Childhood Development from Westminster College. Nici then spent five years as an award-winning third grade teacher in Charlotte, North Carolina. She currently lives in Baltimore, Maryland with her husband, Jay, and two daughters, Sophia and Izzie. Nici spent much of the off season working on the new web site and preparing program ideas for junior staff, training week, and crafts. She hopes to combine all of her experiences as a camper, counselor, teacher, and mother to implement quality programs help campers/staff overcome any challenges.
Alison Mizen: Program Director
Alison began as a camper at Falcon in 1993. She is experienced in a variety of program areas, having worked in almost all areas of camp. She continues to share her experiences aiding in the development and running the staff training program. Alison is a graduate of Kalamazoo College, where she majored in English Literature, American History and Education. She just completed her third year as a 9th and 11th grade English teacher, Drama Club Advisor and Class Council Advisor at Euclid High School in Euclid, Ohio. Alison continues to increase her responsibilities at Falcon each summer and is an integral part of the planning and preparation to our summers.
Tali Cornblath: Assistant Program Director
Tali can't wait for summer eleven! This past year has included tons of child development and drama classes, both of which will be incorporated into this summer's exciting programs. She can't wait for overnights, new drama games, and free swims with all of her old favorite people and the new ones she'll meet!
