FAQ's especially for new campers:
What's a normal day like?
This website is your best resource for descriptions and photos of
everything about your day at camp. Check out our Typical Day ,
Virtual Tour, and Programs/Activities to see all that Falcon has to offer. If you still have any questions, please feel
free to Contact Us.
Can I tour Falcon Camp?
In the spring, Falcon has an annual Open House for all new camp families. It is
a great day to get a guided tour through camp by one of our veteran
counselors. Once the summer begins, you
are welcome to come and tour Falcon at its best…full of campers and staff! We welcome new family visits anytime
throughout the summer. Please just give
Falcon a call that morning so we can schedule a staff member for your tour.
Do Most Campers Come With A Friend?
We enjoy a mixture of campers who enjoy bringing friends from home/school as
well as campers who look forward to spending time with only Falcon
friends. If you are nervous about coming
to camp without knowing anyone, we can help! Falcon will send you the names and
emails of some campers and counselors who will be living in your unit. Then you will have some familiar names and
faces as you arrive!
Can I stay in the same cabin with my friend?
If you want to bunk with a friend, be sure to have your parents note it on the
back of your application. We keep a limit of two friend requests per
application. Camp is about having fun
with current friends as well as making new ones. We do our best to make sure
friends are placed together.
Do I have to clean my cabin?
Each camper is responsible for keeping his or her area clean. Yes, you will have to make your bed each
morning and take out the trash occasionally.
Just think how impressed your parents will be when you return home!
Can I bring decorations for my cabin?
We encourage you to make your space your own. You are welcome to bring
family photos, posters and decorations, but they must meet camp guidelines.
Decorations must be safe and appropriate and should not interfere with another
camper's area.
Should I bring money?
You will not need to bring money to
camp. There really is no place to
spend it. All extra expenses are covered
by the spending account. This spending
account covers camp store and field trips.
Camp store opens three to four times per week with snacks, drinks, water
bottles, playing cards, etc. On field
trips, all campers will be given money from his/her account by a staff member
at the destination.
How is the food?
As any returning camper will tell you, our food is one of the many things
to look forward to. The main meal is served family style (where you get to eat
with your cabin mates and counselors).
In addition, you can also visit the breakfast bar in the mornings full
of cereal and fresh fruit. For lunch and
dinner, the salad bar offers lots of vegetables and a few other options. Dessert
is offered after lunch and dinner as well as an evening snack.
What type of clothes do kids wear to camp?
Get ready to be doing lots of outdoor activities where your clothes get dirty.
Do you have an item of clothing or shoes that you couldn’t stand to ruin? That’s the first clue it should not go in the
camp trunk. Please make sure that all of your belongings are marked with your
name and see the Parent Handbook for our complete clothing policy. Click here for
our camp checklist.
Do I have to wash my clothes?
No. Laundry will be done on Saturday for both two and four week campers and
then again in the next week for campers staying longer than two weeks. Linens will be done as well as clothes. Please make sure to label your laundry bag as
well as the clothes inside.
Do I have to be athletic to have fun?
As you can see from the Tour, Falcon Camp offers
a variety of fun activities to suit anyone. The four activity periods are based
on the idea that you get to choose the activities you like. So if Athletics isn’t your thing, go to
Drama. If you do not consider yourself a crafty person, go to Woodslore. All we
ask is that you try your best and be nice to the people around you. Our staff and campers will treat you the same
way no matter your interests and talents.
Should I bring equipment?
We have provided a camper checklist,
but you are welcome to bring additional items such as playing cards to use in
your spare time. Remember you are responsible for all equipment brought to
Falcon and please make sure your name is
on everything.
What do I do on a rainy day?
Falcon can’t give away all of our fun activities. But we have been known to play a little extreme
bingo or mud soccer…..
Can boys & girls do activities together?
Yes. Our typical day is structured so you will travel to activity areas by
units which are broken down between boys and girls. But we have daily planned coed activities
such as evening activity, campfires, and dances.
Can I spend time with my brother or sister?
One of the best parts of having a smaller size camp is the ability to see
your siblings throughout the day. Before
meals is always a great time to check up on your brother or sister. Before formation, all of camp will be outside
the lodge talking, playing games, and sharing stories from the previous
activities.
How often can I go horseback riding?
At Falcon Camp, you will be assigned to a riding group. Your group will be
scheduled to ride twice a week. If you
are interested in spending more time with the horses, you can get up before
breakfast for horsecare or sign up for extra riding. Check out the programs and activities page
for more details.
How will I know what's going on?
Each unit will have a daily schedule posted. This schedule will tell you
how to rotate through our four activity periods. If you have any questions about the schedule,
your counselor would be happy to help.
Any special activities will be announced at formation. Formation is a time where the entire camp
stands outside the lodge for announcements.
Who helps me if I have a problem?
Our counselors and staff are always willing to help a camper. If something is
bothering you or there is a problem, let a staff member know we will all work
together to solve it.
What are the counselors like?
Our counselors are friendly, caring and fun. Some of our staff started as
campers who continue to return while others join us from countries like Australia, the >United
Kingdom, and Ireland. Take a look at the key staff page to learn
about all of the counselors.
Can my parents visit me? How many kids will be in my cabin? Are there restrooms in the cabins? The restrooms are located within the unit. It is always a good idea to bring some sort
of shower caddy to carry from your cabin to the bathroom. We are also renovating the Blue Jays,
Kestrels, and Eagles bathrooms for the 2010 summer. Check back to the Falcon’s Nest for updates. Can I get mail / care packages? Yes! Bunk notes and letters are a
great way for your friends and family to keep in touch while you are at
camp. You are also welcome to receive
care packages but please check the Parent Handbook for our complete care
package policy. Can my parents call me? We only have one phone line at camp so we reserve phone calls only for
special occasions such as birthdays or emergencies. Campers are not permitted to call from
camp. Due to our remote location,
cell phones do not work and campers are not permitted to have them at camp.
If you are a four week camper, there is a designated Visitors Day in the
middle of the session. One of the best parts of camp is making some of your own
choices with a little help from our staff.
You will have eight to ten campers in the cabin with at least two staff
members. Check out the camp tour for
pictures to see the inside of a cabin.
