Camp Fairs
As the new year begins, so does our hectic schedule of camp fairs. In the next few months, we will be visiting a wide variety of places to talk about camp. If you live nearby or are in the area, we’d love to see you! Stop by, find the Falcon booth, and tell some people why you love camp. If you bring a friend who is interested in camp, you’ll both receive our new Friends T-shirt (introduced later in the newsletter).
February 2012
From the Director
Emily, Nici, Tali and I will be in Atlanta from February 20-24 for the American Camp Association national conference. It is energizing to be surrounded by your peer professionals and to share with each other. Helping children reconnect with nature is a major topic track of the conference, as it is with a growing
number of educators nationwide. I will represent Ohio as part of a panel discussion titled: Children and Nature, How Public Policy Decisions are Helping and Hurting Environmental Literacy. As a long time member of the ACAOhio board of directors, (now known as the Council of Leaders – got to love the consultants who get paid for these ideas…), my main role is as chair for legislative affairs. Beyond the directing of Falcon, part of my larger vision for camping is to help connect more schools, camps and health professionals in a collaborative effort of year round services. All of us have similar goals —to help young people grow in meaningful and healthy ways–we just have some different ways to help them get there. Any parent or alumni in a professional field where they might be of assistance, please feel free to offer your thoughts. In the meantime, remember to tell your friends about Falcon and join us for the summer of 2012.
