From the Director

Winter is a different kind of busy than summer when all of our time is spent with our campers. Now we have campers enrolling almost daily, constant phone calls and emails, preparing for all the camp fairs, program planning and for me, some of the more deskbound parts of running a business. With the
snow we’ve had, the camp road is inaccessible so everything at camp is closed and quiet. Tom and Pam feed and keep an eye on the horses at the farm, while Tom works on some projects in the barn workshop like building some new shelves for inside the cabins and new shutters for outside the cabins.

Likely the most critical decisions that are made this time of year involve the hiring of staff. We are proud of the dedication and care our staff show each year. Staff efforts and their individual attention given to campers often makes the difference between a good time and a great time. Our standards for staff are high and our choices reflect not only activity skills but more importantly an understanding of the kind of positive role models we expect our staff to be.

Nici Mahen and Todd Lennig both play key roles in the selection and the training of our staff. It is no coincidence that their administrative responsibilities grow as their skills and talents shine through. As a
camp director for more than 30 years and with a network of camping professionals nationwide, I can tell you with confidence and with pride that there are many envious directors out there who wish they had even one of these two working for them. Falcon Camp is a better place for the work that they do.

See you at a camp fair,

Dave
