Learning archery at summer camp

Archery, Riflery, and Tennis

Whether you’re an artist with paint and paper or with a bow and arrow, Falcon Camp has an activity for a variety of interests! But when we talk about “ART”, we’re referring to Archery, Riflery, and Tennis.

With four activity periods each day, there’s dedicated time for these three activities, and you get to choose which one you’re most interested in. Forget archery camp or tennis camp—you get to try a bunch of different things here at Falcon Camp!

So if you’re feeling particularly adventurous, you can try your hand at archery. If you’re feeling a bit more athletic one day, you can channel your inner tennis pro out on the court. There’s an activity for every camper!

Archery

archery

At Archery, campers’ first lesson is in safety and listening to instructions. Once they have shown that they recognize the importance of both of these things, campers are introduced to a bow and arrow. After learning the parts of a bow and arrow, how to score, and elements of shooting, campers take turns getting in on the action and working toward their Camp Archery Association awards. When you hit that target, there’s no better feeling!

Riflery

When first starting at Riflery, campers learn about the importance of safety and listening to instructions when using a rifle. Once they have shown that they understand the instructions that will be given, and are able to listen and follow them, they are introduced to a rifle. They are taught how to load it, aim, and score, along with much more specific lessons like breath patterns. Campers take turns shooting, working toward their Civilian Marksmanship Program awards.

Tennis

Campers are introduced to the basics of tennis and first learn how to properly hold a tennis racket. Instructors have the campers practice hits without the ball first to get used to the motions, such as a forehand and backhand swing. They’ll also learn how to judge a ball’s speed and depth and match up their foot movements in order to make contact with the ball.

Once they’ve got the basics down, that’s when the fun really starts! Campers get to do fun practice drills like the frying pan, the dribble, the hit and catch, running the lines, etc. And it all leads up to matches with fellow campers.
